The Sin City Babes {Las Vegas Diaries} ~ International Boudoir Photographer

boudoir_photography_winnipeg_1862-1024x473.jpg

Vegas seems like a dream, even though it was just a month ago!  I had the best time meeting other photogs, checking out the photo tradeshow, venturing around the desert, and of course teaching with Lindsay Rae.  But one of my most favorite parts, of course, was PHOTOGRAPHING other photogs!  This post is dedicated to ALL of the bad ass boss babes that jumped in front of my lens in an effort to remind themselves of what their clients go through!

Stefania {Chapter 1} ~ New York Editorial

2018-11-06_0004-1024x682.jpg

When I reached out to Ms. StefaniaFerrario a year ago via Instagram, I put it into the universe that we would someday meet up and when I didn't hear back instantly (because that's what we expect, right?) I assumed she was busy living the dream of being a model and doing her thang (which she was!).  But let me rewind a bit:  My first "meeting" with Stefania, was watching her interview in the Embrace documentary and watching her speak so eloquently about what it was like being a "plus" model who is between a size 8 and 10 and explaining about the terrible things that women would do to themselves and their bodies to be accepted into the modeling industry.  As soon as I saw her poise and sparkle on camera, I started following her on the Instagram.  Now, I had never really had the guts to reach out to professional models before, but for some reason I reached out to her because our dual passion for body neutrality and celebrating the uniqueness in humans was something that connected us.  Anywho, fast foward now a YEARish after I sent the original message asking to work together and I commented on one of her insta stories about a book she had found!  I guess, in responding to my message, she had seen that I had previously messaged her about working together and messaged me back telling me about the book AND THEN SAYING YES WE SHOULD WORK TOGETHER.  I almost dropped my phone....but I tried to play it cool, because I didn't want to scare her off.  But in Winnipeg, in my studio, I was fucking FAN-GIRLING.  HARD.  Anywho, she had just moved to New York to model with IMG Models (she's originally from Australia), so I took literally the only free four days I had off in the last 6 months and booked a flight to NYC.  Sometimes, you just gotta take a chance.  Now, this sweetheart also let me stay with her, which was freaking incredible, because she, like me, gets inspired at the drop of a hat so we found ourselves shooting throughout the day and even one evening at midnight (as you will see in another chapter later on!).  So, the day I flew in, I had a hiccup with my luggage at the airport, but we ended up shooting anyway! Previously, I had found this adorable vintage cotton bra and panty set from the early 80s so I threw it in my bag last minute AND THANK THE GOOD LORD!  It fit her like a damn glove.  We paired that with her amazingly tiny pink bathroom and set to work on our first editorial!  Now, as a she is a professional model, I doubted my skills for a second...especially when I pulled out JUST my camera and she said "You don't have any lights?" and look inquisitively at me.  I choked down my fear and replied "Nope, I like shooting with ambient light." but in my brain was like "oh my fuck."  But really, what was I going to do?  I work best under pressure and have way more fun creating, so somehow we managed to throw together literally one of my favorite editorials EVER because it is lifestyle, but also bad ass.  Oh, Stefania is also a big proponent in saying no to Photoshop!  So, while her images have been color corrected and color toned, there is no skin retouching on this fierce babe!  So, now that you have the low-down on how we met, I am going to let you get to enjoying this delightful session we did!  I introduce to you Ms. Stefania - Chapter 1:

Look At Your Body And Call It Beautiful {Vegas Diaries} ~ International Boudoir Photographer

international boudoir photographerWe are so quick to tell our bodies how much we detest every roll, wrinkle, or "abnormality" but very rarely do we hug the softness, caress the bones, and whisper sweet nothings to our vessel, our one stable home.  I headed out to the desert with a bunch of amazing boudoir photographers to celebrate our curves and bodies in all their glory and I managed to get one babe down to nothing.  Miss Kristina of Owl and Otter: Soul Artist stripped down to the beautiful outfit that is her body and became a goddess, reconnected to nature.  With the full moon behind her, the salt flats laid out before her, and nothing but her strong, fearless body that helped her travel across the world to the point where we would meet, she OWNED everything that made her amazing.plus size boudoirMy mission as an empowerment photographer is to reunite women with their natural, goddess-like selves but my goal is to also increase the amount of diverse bodies we see online and in social media to make rolls, wrinkles, and "abnormalities" normalized because we are perfect the way we are.  If we see bodies of all shapes and sizes in their natural state, we will look at our own and see the beauty that makes us original.  This shoot inspired me to start a project this summer, photographing all bodies in the natural landscapes around us (I will wait until Spring for us Canadians!) and then create a beautiful coffee table book that is not only full of beautiful imagery, but also inspirational in all aspects: the women braving themselves and baring their bodies and souls, a showcase of a variety of bodies to show that there isn't ONE ideal, but rather we are all amazing in whatever form we take as long as we are good humans, and their stories about their journey to self love and authenticity!plus size boudoirIf you want to join Kristina in this amazing project (I will be traveling to a few different places this year, so keep an eye out if I am coming to you!!) simply email me at: thpstudios@gmail.com with the subject: I AM A GODDESSplus size boudoirIf you are not ready to get nudie in the neighbourhood, that is alright.  I simply ask that you take some time to reacquaint yourself with your body.  Instead of pinching and sighing in disgust at your softness or bits, simply caress it and decide that your bits are beautiful.  As you do this over and over again, you will start to see yourself differently.plus size boudoirYou know how we wish someone would tell us "I love you"? Well, your body wants the same.  If you can't tell yourself that, how can you expect someone else to say it for you?  Look at yourself in the mirror...open your eyes, take a deep breath, and start a relationship in loving yourself.  You deserve it.“We all begin the process before we are ready, before we are strong enough, before we know enough; we begin a dialogue with thoughts and feelings that both tickle and thunder within us. We respond before we know how to speak the language, before we know all the answers, and before we know exactly to whom we are speaking.” Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

She Thought She Wasn't Fucking Good Enough ~ Winnipeg Boudoir Photographer

winnipeg boudoir photographerMiss R.'s shoot was a first for me.  She booked her session in the morning (not uncommon).....OF HER WEDDING (uncommon!)  How cool is that?  While she was getting married that day, the intent for her session had very little to do with her lucky partner...it was all about her!  Her post after she saw her photos had me in tears.  She. Was. Amazing.winnipeg boudoir photographerOf course I thought she was awesome, and I absolutely love that she fully trusted me to do whatever I wanted with her, but I am going to let this hottie tell you what the experience meant to her, because at the end of the day it's never about me...it's always, always, ALWAYS about HER.winnipeg boudoir photographerI got back from my reveal session with Teri Hofford Photography and I just wanna say... Wow.winnipeg boudoir photographerI decided on a boudoir empowerment session for myself because I had too much issues with hating myself and the way my body's current state is. I'm in the process of transitioning to reach my goal, but I want to be able to actually love myself without a doubt to actually see myself in a different light. There are various times when I don't get as much likes on a photo, having a shitty day, or do something mentally exhausting where I just wanna say "I'm not fucking good enough!" Or "I'm ugly," "I'm too fat," "Nobody wants to see all that," or in general fear that I'd be bullied more about my looks than I was in high school. Since I seen what she's been doing out there to help build body positivity with women out there, I decided to go for it for myself for me. Being someone with anxiety, it's hard to see myself as more than enough. Sure the hubby might check out the end results and stuff, but HE SEES ME EVERY DAY SO ANYTHING HE SAYS I THINK IS BULL CRAP WHEN HE COMPLIMENTS ME.winnipeg boudoir photographerI was nervous as hell in the beginning because of my white sheet session, but when I got into it I felt more confident with little I was wearing (sexy outfit, done up hair, and fierce makeup).winnipeg boudoir photographerWhen I got there today, I was excited in going but at the same time having doubts in myself to see if i actually looked good or not. Having a surge of anxiety, a lot of thoughts in my head like "what if they're not as good as I was hoping?" "My booty probably won't look that good," "My boobies only look good from some angles," "I have really bad skin (keratosis pilaris + stretchmarks), I'm afraid ... they would ruin the pic."winnipeg boudoir photographerShe sat me down, showed me a beautiful sildeshow that I was holding back my waterworks because... After seeing the first few I was like, "Oh damn, I'M FIERCE AS FUCK! I'm fierce as fuck no matter what size I am." And that's the kind of image I want to remind myself of that I am me, THAT IS ME! WOW! And some of these pics are way too hot for Facebook. Lmao!!! Heck I even thought I had a nice pair! I was wowed and I'm still wowed!winnipeg boudoir photographerDefinitely worth it, if you're struggling to see yourself in the way others see you in a positive light... GO SEE TERI! Body Positive Advent ~ Winnipeg Boudoir Photographer

winnipeg boudoir photographerWell, shit....It's December.  When the heck did that happen???  It feels like we were just finishing up our New Years Eve shoot that finished off 2015...phew!  The holiday season is interesting because as much as it is filled with "joy", diet culture has also told us to be full of "guilt" over what we eat & drink and that is no way to live a body positive lifestyle, let me tell you!!  This whole "I hate myself because I ate a piece of pie" bullshit that starts in Thanksgiving and pretty much carries over until you purchase a too expensive gym membership that you will use quite a bit for two weeks, but then fall back into old habits, is getting pretty old if you ask me.  Now, I am not bashing those who want to maintain a balance with their body, but it shouldn't be such a love/hate/guilt/shame relationship that many of us have....it should be a "I ate and drank quite a bit last night.  My body deserves better because I don't want to get sick this holiday season, so I will take it easy until the next party comes along."  This sounds like a healthier conversation than the one where we are crying about our weight into sticky toffee pudding.  Maybe it's just me.....but if it's not, I wanted to throw together a body positive advent calendar to kind of keep those negative conversations at bay and help you truly have a joyful holiday season and give thanks for the kick ass body you do have, whatever point in your journey you are at!winnipeg boudoir photographerI urge you to do some of, if not all of these things to keep you in a positive mindset when it comes to our body relationships.  Like everything else around the holidays, traditions are incredibly common, but one tradition I hope to change is the one where we shame ourselves into feeling like a bag of shit because we ate 3 Turtles!  I hope you laugh, cry, hug, kiss, and appreciate the time you have this holiday season and my team and I wish you the very best!  I am off to a sunny destination for the first week of December, but I will be back after that and I hope to see many of you bad ass babes feeling strong, beautiful, and empowered!  Happy December!winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer winnipeg boudoir photographer
