So, I was driving to work one day when I had this idea, what if I was to give myself a random set of instructions and then I would have to create a photo shoot based on those limitations. As I noodled this around, I eventually arrived at the studio where I mentioned my idea to Jill. We grabbed a dice block that I have and proceeded to create these “random instructions” You can see how it went down in my tiktok here:
That following week Jill and I set out on our adventure as the universe decided! We met at my house and drove 10 minutes east which took us to the back of the University of Manitoba area in the evening. Based on our limitations we created the following set of images!
This was, you could say, the beta test of my idea and as a result I have since made this “game” into a deck of cards for photographers to challenge themselves! I call it #theuniversedecides deck and it features time, durations, wardrobe, mood, and so many other factors to let the universe decide where and when you will create! It’s so easy for photographers to sacrifice their art for business, and therefore they end up losing the heart - these cards were created to inspire, challenge, and foster creativity for photographers just as they did for me!
